I'm Off, Over Thinking and The End of a Chapter - The Savoring No. 035
"But what if you could totally reinvent yourself in your 50s," she wondered as she hit the gas.
First stop, Texas.
Tomorrow I begin my four week solo-ish road trip. This week has been about finishing any design projects that were open as I am phasing out of the design space. While I love designing homes, doing it as a business has made it stressful instead of a passion and so after years of doing it professionally, I am happy to be moving it back into the passion project column of my life.
That is opening up a big chunk of time to focus on things like taking a long four week adventure, more time writing, doing a 30 day challenge with some AMAZING women and working on getting the Savoring Collective FINALLY up and running after nearly letting fear derail me. I have so many exciting things happening behind the scenes and can’t wait to share everything with all of you very soon! Including the launch date.
If you aren’t already on the waitlist, you can get on it here.
This trip is about starting over at 54. A reclaiming of self, adventure and passion. Of learning to quiet the voice of fear. Seeking new things to be grateful for. Living one day at a time.
It’s about meeting strangers, finding new empathies, feeling and receiving kindness. Paying it forward. Listening to different accents, learning about different cultures, eating different foods, seeing different terrains.
It’s about growing, opening and understanding. Finding a new sense of ease.
I will be doing my very best to document my travels each day over on Instagram in my posts and stories, so if you are interested, you can follow along there.
Recommendations wanted! I would love any podcast or audio book recommendations you have! I will have a lot of alone time in the car, so load me up in the comments.
No. 01 This Series
Guy Ritchie and Tom Hardy? Say no more. IN. Mobland is binge worthy if crime families and violence are your thing. HIGHLY recommend the subtitles. I couldn’t understand a single thing they were saying without them.
No. 02 This Phrase
I get to. One of the gifts I received over the last couple of years is an “I get to” attitude. Do I always feel that way? Nope. But I work hard every day to keep it in focus. Give it a go today and see how this small but mighty shift makes your day more magic-y.
No. 03 This Quote
The person who consumes from better sources gets better thoughts. - James Clear
Words to live be. This includes media outlets, toxic people and anything else you are consuming. They all affect your mood and your thoughts. If something is making you miserable, change the channel.
No. 04 This Substack on Future Tripping
This landed in my inbox Monday morning. Future tripping is described by Chloe Markham as, “Feeling tension around the potential of what’s next, problem-solving imagined problems instead of real ones, not leaving any space for hope, or optimism, or nuance, or magic.” Give it a read.
No. 05 This Give Back
Feeling like you want to do something to give back but don’t know how to scratch the itch? My good friend, Jill, shared Lasagna Love with me. Make a lasagna, give it to someone in need. It’s a simple way to give back in a world that feels overwhelming with need right now.
No. 06 Playlist
I am loving this Back Porch Summer Evenings playlist. It gives off porch swing and sun tea vibes.
No. 07 These Sours
I am not a THC kind of gal but I found these Chill Out gummies via Hillary Kerr and decided sleep is important and I was going to give it a try. They are mild, a mostly CBD with a tiny hint of THC combo. Just enough to help me log a good night’s sleep with zero grogginess in the morning.
No. 08 This Lip Balm
I’m a big fan of shiny, moisturized lips. I didn’t use to care so much about what I put on my lips. Case in point, the guys I dated in my early 20s.
These days, I’m much pickier. I want clean products. This Lip Wrap Reviving Balm from Ilia is my go to.
No. 09 These Jeans
These Lucky jeans, The Baggy, are my favorite boyfriend style jean. No draw string and they aren’t made of sweats material. Already reinventing and I haven’t even pulled out of the driveway.
No. 010 This Garden
I am going to miss my garden almost as much as Colt and JJ. I'm savoring her today before I head out. I got a late start this year due to a war with a couple of squirrels and having to replant more than once. She is going to burst open while I’m gone so this year much of my fruits and vegetables will be shared.
I’m hopeful when I return I’ll be able to can some tomatoes and pickle some cucumbers so we can enjoy them throughout fall.
No. 011 This Dog Bed
I have had many beds for Otis in the car and he is usually panting and trying to find a way to get comfortable, constantly shifting. Clearly, he found his happiness with this car bed.
Just a reminder that every like, share and comment is an affirmation that you enjoy this weekly newsletter and I should keep creating them. I’m grateful for the love.
I'm so excited for you...just please come back ;) - XOXOXO
Get ready to swelter. Hopefully I'll see you and Otis soon!
