I do pilates twice a week and you have to wear socks that have sticky bottoms. I forgot mine this week and they, of course, had some overpriced socks for me to purchase.
She showed me the usual assortment of ballet slipper style footies and then she said, “Oh and we have these that just came in.”
I was stopped in my nostalgic tracks. They were a time machine of overpriced slouch socks and I wanted, needed, them on my feet.
“Oh my gawd, I love them,” I said far too enthusiastically for a pair of socks. I ripped the tags off and I slipped the first sock over my right foot.
🎶I made it through the wilderness, somehow I made it through, didn't know how lost I was, until I found you 🎶
The left sock.
🎶Like a virgin, hee, touched for the very first time, like a viriririrgin, with your heartbeat next to mine … 🎶
I made my way through all the painful planks with songs of my angsty teen years playing in my mind.
As soon as I got in the car, I threw on my favorite 80s playlist, opened my Amazon app and ordered a bundle of slouch socks without the sticky bottoms.
Now to figure out which colors to layer together.
This week I am savoring those slouch socks and so much more.

This 80s Playlist to Go With Those 80s Socks
I put together this nostalgic 80s playlist to go with my socks. Which songs did I miss?
This Quote
We long to have again the vanished past, in spite of all its pain. - Sophocles
Sophocles was born in 496 and died in 406 BC. Apparently the past hasn’t changed much over the years.

For those of you who haven’t fully exhaled since 2022, this post is for you.
This Book
I know I recently mentioned Ina Garten’s memoir, Be Ready When the Luck Happens, but I feel like I want to bring more attention to it. Admittedly I am a big fan of Ina’s. I own every cookbook.
I am typically underwhelmed by memoirs and wasn’t going to read this one. They mostly leave me liking my vision of the memoirist more than the actual memoirist.
Someone I trust strongly recommended it, so I gave it a go and I am not sorry. Not one bit.
It is about her career of course. I love reading how decisions were made, where her lucky breaks hit and how she made the most of her mistakes.
But what I am savoring is how this memoir is the gradual unfolding of a women born in the late 40s, the expectation that her greatest accomplishment would be as someone’s wife and how she defied the norm, with a soft heart and a strong ambition, and became the woman and entrepreneur we know today.
This Movie
’Twas the Date Before Christmas. It’s a very thought provoking movie about dating over the holidays.
No it’s isn’t. It’s a Hallmark Christmas movie and it was deliciously entertaining.
Here’s a list of all the new Hallmark Christmas movies this year.
This Recipe
Chocolate is always the answer. Unless you need something a little stronger. 🍸
These Oat Bites are surprisingly satisfying. And mostly healthy.
1 cup old fashioned oatmeal
½ cup peanut butter
½ cup chopped sliced almonds
½ cup ground flaxseed
½ cup mini chocolate chips
⅔ cup sweet coconut flakes
1/3 cup honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Refrigerate for at least one hour. Roll into balls. Enjoy.
Store in the refrigerator.
These Jeans? I Added to My Closet
Jeans, Sweats, No Wait … Jeans? If you splurge on any one piece of clothing for yourself, make it this one.
These are jeans. I think. I mean they look like jeans. But they feel like sweats. I’m not sure what they are, just get them.
This Fall-Winter Decor
Like with my Hallmark Christmas movies, I am, as I do every year, working Christmas into my life in late October. Don’t judge me. Actually, I don’t care. You can judge me. It won’t stop me.
I found this at a local boutique and I had to have it. Notice I have Christmas on the door and a pumpkin on the bench. It’s a holiday mullet.
This Otis Moment on Our Hike
I live in an area where there are lots of barns and that means lots of horses. We have trails for miles in our neighborhood and we share them with the horses.
Otis loves his “friends” and always stops to say hello. They are just not that into him.
This Woman Who Makes Me Laugh
If you are unfamiliar with Leanne Morgan, my apologies for not mentioning her before. She is the laughter we all need.
Her stand up show, I’m Every Women, has kept my abs in shape since I first saw it. When I need a laugh I head straight to Youtube and rewatch clips. You can check out the trailer here or just go straight to the show on Netflix.
The Idea of This New Venture
I have been pondering a podcast for years. Over the last month I’ve started to put real thought into it. I know some amazing women, with incredible stories who are doing inspiring things in their late 40s, 50s and 60s. I want to talk about all the great things they are doing, all they’ve been through to get them there and how they are savoring this time.
At 52, wallowing in menopause pity and sad that her kids were all grown up and off on their own, Stefanie Mullen got a wakeup call. Following routine blood work, she got a call that changed everything. “I think you have leukemia”, her doctor told her.
After treatment and a stem cell transplant she is now cancer free and on a mission to help women in their 50s and beyond realize this isn’t our swan song, this is Our Chapter. Every day is a gift, every day is to be savored.
