The Savoring No. 025 Gettin' Springy
“But what if I didn’t wear sweat pants today,” she wondered.
Spring is springing. The slowness of winter fading. I fought it for weeks. The hustle and bustle of a life lived louder than a whisper.
The clouds and cool air remained. Winter not wanting to let go any more than I wanted her to.
But this week, I could no longer put up a fight. The sun was shining brightly through my window every morning. The birds singing me awake. The nights bright and long. The bees and hummingbirds buzzing, my garden a fireworks display of green.
Otis and I went for a long hike to visit the baby llamas and goats this week. Thursday a good friend and I met at a local museum to enjoy a bit of culture and then lunched on the patio overlooking the ocean.
We walked around the town of La Jolla and enjoyed a leisurely visit to one of our favorite local bookstores. So few remain, I always buy a book from them when I’m near. I consume books in all formats. Print, audio and Kindle. It depends on my mood and my surroundings. But I love a good local book store and do my very best to support the ones I can.
We hosted friends last night for a BBQ, played bucket golf and made grilled chicken sandwiches. We spent this morning working on our landscaping. Our youngest son came home for the weekend to visit friends and we got to spend an hour on the patio of my new she-shed chatting with him. JJ and I had an early date night together for burgers and beers outside at one of our favorite burger joints.
I tackled my closet this weekend, pushing the heavy sweaters and boots to the back and breaking out my cropped pants and lightweight cardigans.
My style is casual. I like it simple. Stay at home sweats, going out of the house sweats (I said what I said), jeans, khakis and some version of a tank or tee with a jacket or cardigan. I’m not fancy. I rarely wear a dress. Occasionally a good pencil skirt.
I don’t wear much color. I like to blend in more than stand out. It allows me to observe and not be seen. Also Otis has white fur and he’s usually with me.
I don’t like to think much about fashion, but I do like to feel like I did. I recently came up with a light lift fashion plan. Instead of wearing the same five pieces over and over, I put together a Pinterest board of casual outfits I love. Then I broke those outfits into categories and created boards in Canva and printed them out.
Instead of walking into my closet each day and changing six times in an effort to be stylish, then giving up and wearing my standard jeans and a t-shirt, I now have a board of options printed out to reference. It is allowing me to be a little more stylish, with not much effort. I’m a fan.
The other benefit to putting the boards together is it showed me the little accents I was loving and missing that bring the whole outfit together. Like this brown leather belt, a simple khaki blazer, a strand of pearls.

This Rainbow
I didn’t need another reason this week to embrace spring, but Mother Earth gave me a beautiful one anyway.
This Fashion Board
This is one of the boards I have printed out in my closet, Khaki’s, that is making my fashion life a little more fashion-y.
This Pair of Birks
Me a few years ago: Birks are ugly AF. Who wears those?
Me modern day: Owns three pairs and just added another to her collection.
I “needed” them to complete that outfit above. They made the whole thing stylish. Am I right?
This Planner
I spent FOR-EVER searching for the perfect planner. I couldn’t find one that had everything I wanted. In one of my searches a few years ago I came across Golden Coil. It allows you to create your own planner. They make it super easy and I’ve been creating my own planner for years.
I do a quarterly planner. Each month has a month at a glance, a page for each day of the week and then five dotted pages (double sided) each week that I use to journal. It brings me such joy to have my whole life in one place. This cover above is the Emily Cooper and the one I am currently enjoying.
Do you keep a journal?
These Two That Brighten My Life
Our youngest son Colt and his boyfriend Henry spent last weekend making us smile. (If you two are reading this, Easter is just around the corner and I’m expecting you both to be at my table.) 🐇
This She Shed Update
She’s almost complete.
We do a thing in our house. We give everything a name. What should we name her?
This Substack I Enjoyed
This was an interesting read in response to a New York Times article, “It’s the end of Work as We Knew It.” Are we being phased out? Yes. So what’s next?
Spread the joy of savoring and share with friends you know love to savor the good things in life.
She looks like a Martha…Stewart ;)
I just subscribed and love your work!
And, Otis! I’ve had 2 Cavaliers. Once you’ve had one, you know.
My favorite line this week: "I don’t like to think much about fashion, but I do like to feel like I did." That applies to hair and makeup for me as well. Love your boards. I'm struggling to replace my skinny jeans with pants like I wore in high school and hoping they will be gone by the time I get adapted. Thank you for your beautiful posts.
